At least 12 people were injured in Toledo, Ohio, as two shooters traded gunfire, police said.

Authorities said two of the victims are in critical condition, while those injured range in age from 14 to 61 years old.

Police said the incident began when two individuals started shooting at each other near the Old West End Festival. Officers were called to the scene at around 5:37 p.m. after reports of a shooting, and several victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Investigators described the case as an active investigation and said they are following multiple leads. Police are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspects, who remain at large.

Officials have also appealed to the public to share any cellphone videos or information that could assist the investigation.

Hundreds of people were attending the festival when the shooting occurred. City officials expressed disappointment that violence disrupted one of Toledo’s most well-known community events.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, the Toledo incident is among a growing number of mass shootings in the United States this year. The organization defines a mass shooting as an incident in which at least four people are injured by gunfire, excluding the shooter.
