Asim Munir concludes Iran visit, reaffirms commitment to regional peace and dialogue

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, has concluded a three-day official visit to Iran, during which he underscored the critical importance of dialogue, de-escalation, and peaceful settlement of disputes amid heightened regional tensions involving the United States.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a high-level delegation, held a series of substantive and high-level engagements with the Iranian leadership throughout the visit.

The visit was undertaken as part of Pakistan’s sustained diplomatic outreach aimed at consolidating the recently established two-week ceasefire between Tehran and Washington into a durable and enduring framework for regional peace.

During the visit, CDF Munir called on Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and held separate detailed meetings with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Commander of the Khatam-ul-Anbiya Headquarters, Major General Ali Abdollahi.

The deliberations focused extensively on the evolving regional security architecture, ongoing diplomatic initiatives, and mechanisms to promote long-term strategic stability across the Middle East and surrounding regions.

In all engagements, the army chief reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance advocating dialogue, de-escalation, and the resolution of outstanding disputes through sustained, structured, and diplomacy-driven engagement. He reaffirmed that military confrontation cannot serve as a viable pathway to regional peace.

Field Marshal Asim Munir also conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of Pakistan’s leadership and people to the Iranian leadership, reiterating Islamabad’s commitment to further deepening its longstanding fraternal and strategic relations with Tehran.

He expressed profound appreciation for the gracious hospitality extended by the Iranian leadership and people during the visit.

The ISPR further stated that the visit reflects Pakistan’s consistent and unequivocal resolve to facilitate negotiated settlements to regional conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, while advancing peace, stability, and collective prosperity across the broader region.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan had earlier played a facilitative diplomatic role in talks held in Islamabad on April 11 following a two-week ceasefire arrangement brokered on April 8 through regional diplomatic engagement led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

During the Islamabad discussions, Field Marshal Asim Munir remained centrally engaged, personally receiving and interacting with delegations upon their arrival, underscoring Pakistan’s active diplomatic positioning.

Reports have also noted that US President Donald Trump has previously referred to Field Marshal Munir as his “favourite field marshal,” following interactions during efforts to defuse last year’s brief but intense military escalation between Pakistan and India.
