New Zealand Cricket has officially announced its squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in England next year.

According to the board all-rounder Amelia Kerr has been appointed as captain of the 15-member squad for the major tournament.

The squad also includes off-spinning all-rounder Nensi Patel and batter Izzy Sharp, both of whom are set to make their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup debut after earning selection for the first time.

Experienced players Sophie Devine, Lea Tahuhu, and Suzie Bates have also been included in the squad. The trio is expected to bring a wealth of experience to the team and will retire from international cricket following the conclusion of the tournament.

Ahead of the World Cup New Zealand will play a three-match T20 International series against England in late May as part of their preparation for the global event.

Head coach Ben Sawyer said the inclusion of young players alongside senior stars makes this squad particularly special, especially as it marks a transition phase for several senior players. He noted that the tournament will be an emotional and memorable occasion for those concluding their careers.

New Zealand have been placed in Group B of the tournament alongside England, Ireland, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. They will begin their campaign against the West Indies on June 13.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is set to commence on June 12 in England, featuring top international teams competing for the prestigious title.
