A very positive op-ed in The National Interest presents Pakistan as a rising diplomatic and security power whose influence is no longer limited to South Asia. It argues that Pakistan is now asserting itself as a central actor in the wider Middle East, especially through its role in the US-Iran ceasefire and Islamabad talks.

The article says Pakistan is no longer on the sidelines of regional diplomacy but is now playing a central role in managing crises in the Middle East. It highlights Pakistan’s involvement in efforts related to the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as hosting key talks in Islamabad.

According to the op-ed, Syed Asim Munir played an important role in helping facilitate a fragile ceasefire after weeks of rising tensions. The Islamabad talks held on April 12–13 are described as a significant diplomatic moment, bringing senior US and Iranian officials together.

The article praises Pakistan’s military diplomacy as credible, discreet, and effective, especially in situations where traditional diplomatic efforts have struggled. It adds that Pakistan’s military leadership has the access, discipline, and strategic connections needed to support de-escalation during high-risk conflicts.

The op-ed also points to Pakistan’s strong defense ties with countries such as China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Jordan as key factors behind its growing diplomatic influence.

It further notes that the Pakistan-Saudi mutual defense agreement signed in September 2025 is a major sign of Pakistan’s increasing role as a regional security partner. Pakistan’s involvement in broader Middle East stability efforts, including support for a Gaza ceasefire and possible participation in international stabilization missions, is also highlighted.

The article concludes that Pakistan is stepping in to fill a diplomatic gap left by weakened traditional mediators and limited effectiveness of global institutions, presenting the country as a credible and influential player in promoting peace and stability in the region.
