Lionsgate has officially greenlit a sequel to its hit psychological thriller The Housemaid, following the film’s impressive box office performance.
Titled The Housemaid’s Secret, the follow-up will see Sydney Sweeney reprise her lead role as Millie, with Paul Feig returning to direct. The sequel is based on the second novel in Freida McFadden’s best-selling Housemaid book trilogy and has been in development for several months. Production is expected to begin later this year.
Michele Morrone is also set to return, while Amanda Seyfried is not expected to have a major role in the sequel.

The original film stars Sweeney as Millie, a woman trying to leave her troubled past behind after accepting a live-in housemaid position with a wealthy family harboring dark secrets. Morrone plays Enzo, the family’s groundskeeper and Millie’s key ally. The cast also included Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar and Elizabeth Perkins.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said the decision to move forward with a sequel was driven by strong audience response and high engagement across social media platforms.
Rebecca Sonnenshine will return as screenwriter, with Todd Lieberman producing alongside Feig and Laura Fischer. Sweeney and McFadden will serve as executive producers.
McFadden’s Housemaid book series has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 40 languages, underscoring the franchise’s growing global appeal.
