Sydney: Shock waves hit the cricketing world as former Aussie fast bowler Glenn McGrath was dropped from the Ashes radio commentary panel over ties with an online gambling company, just days before the series began.
According to Australian media, the national broadcaster parted ways with McGrath after it was revealed that he had links with an online betting company. This decision came only two days before the start of the Ashes series.
The broadcaster stated that its policy strictly prohibits any employee or commentator from having affiliations with gambling companies. McGrath was found to have received support for the McGrath Foundation from a gambling firm, which led to the decision.
In an official statement, the broadcaster confirmed that both parties mutually agreed to separate, ensuring compliance with company policy.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In 2022, former fast bowler Mitchell Johnson also faced similar action due to the same policy.
