Karachi police said they had arrested 41 suspects allegedly involved in aerial firing.

KARACHI: At least two people, including a woman, were killed and 95 others were injured in separate incidents of aerial firing during Independence Day celebrations in Karachi, police and hospital sources said.

In one incident, a 42-year-old man was fatally wounded by a stray bullet near Masha Allah Hotel on University Road in the Old Sabzi Mandi area. Police said Mehrab, son of Mohammad Khan, was sitting with friends at a hotel for tea when aerial firing began around midnight.

A stray bullet struck Mehrab in the chest. He was taken to a private hospital on Stadium Road, where he died while receiving treatment. Police later handed his body over to his brother after completing legal formalities and registered a case against unidentified suspects.

Several other people were also wounded by stray bullets in different parts of the city. Police said 25-year-old Shayan was injured in Federal B Area Block 7, while 30-year-old Ali Ahmed was wounded near Sea View in the Darakhshan area. An 18-year-old man, Abdul Jabbar, was also injured by a bullet at his home near Rand Goth in Sachal.

Police said the incidents appeared to be linked to aerial firing during Independence Day celebrations. An investigation into the fatal shooting near Old Sabzi Mandi is underway.

Meanwhile, Karachi police said they had arrested 41 suspects allegedly involved in aerial firing and recovered weapons from their possession.

Police said 10 suspects were arrested in operations in District East, including Site Super Highway, Sachal, Gulistan-e-Johar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Seven suspects were arrested in Orangi Town in District West, while 16 were detained in District Central and eight in District Korangi.
