Turner, 30, reflects on the ‘strange, hard time’ after ‘Game of Thrones’ ended in 2019

Sophie Turner had a hard time letting go of the character she grew up playing.

In a new interview with the Sydney Morning Herald published on Sunday, August 9, the 30-year-old actress admitted that it became hard for her to separate herself from her Game of Thrones character Sansa Stark after playing her since she was 14 years old.

“I didn’t know who was Sansa and who was Sophie,” Turner reflected. “And I was too young to read the books, so I kind of just developed her over time.”

Turner played Sansa Stark for eight seasons until the show ended in 2019, when she was 23 years old. Recalling the “strange, hard time” that followed, the actress admitted, “I had a big identity crisis when I let her go; I didn’t really know who I was or what I was doing.”

The mom-of-two — who shares two children with her ex-husband Joe Jonas — previously called her time on Game of Thrones “the best acting class.”

“I never had proper formal training, so I got to learn from the amazing actors around me, which I felt like I won a competition,” she revealed on the Dish podcast last year.
