KARACHI: At least eight people were killed and several others injured in separate incidents after strong winds and rain lashed multiple areas of Karachi.

According to rescue officials, a wall collapse near Moach Goth in Baldia claimed eight lives, while three others were injured. The victims were shifted to nearby hospitals, and rescue teams continued search operations at the site.

Rain accompanied by strong winds affected several areas including North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Surjani, FB Area, Saddar, Clifton, Cantt, Railway Colony, Delhi Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan-e-Jamal, and Garden. Thunder and lightning were also reported during the storm.

Multiple incidents of falling trees and structures were reported. Near the Clifton Driving License Branch, a tree fell trapping two individuals, while a billboard collapsed on Tipu Sultan Road in Mohammad Ali Society.

Following the rainfall, power outages were reported in several areas including Moinabad, Al-Ameen Society, Shadman Town 14-A, parts of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Defence Phases I and II, Akhtar Colony, Kashmir Colony, and North Karachi.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded wind speeds of up to 90 km/h on Shahrah-e-Faisal and 97 km/h in Mauripur, highlighting the intensity of the storm.

Separately, three people were injured in another wall collapse in Majid Colony, Quaidabad.

The Met Office stated that no further rain is expected tonight; however, more showers are likely after noon tomorrow, with chances of strong winds, thunderstorms, heavy rainfall at isolated places, and possible hailstorms.

Light rain is also expected on the first day of Eid, while a new westerly weather system between March 24 and 27 may bring additional rainfall to Karachi and other parts of Sindh.
