WhatsApp is expected to introduce a new feature for Android users.

According to media reports, WhatsApp is testing a redesigned media viewer for Android that will allow users to react to photos and videos without leaving full-screen mode.

The feature was first spotted in the latest Android beta version by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo. It is currently available to a limited number of beta testers.

The update gives the media viewer a new design, with a reply bar placed directly below photos and videos. Users can quickly react using two default emojis, while tapping the emoji icon will open the full list of reactions. A plus (+) button will also give users access to the full emoji keyboard.

The new interface also includes a full chat input field, allowing users to send text messages, photos, videos, voice notes and other content while viewing media without leaving the full-screen view.

WhatsApp first introduced reactions and replies for photos and videos in 2024. The latest update builds on that feature by allowing users to interact with media directly from the viewer.

WhatsApp has not yet announced when the redesigned media viewer will be available to all Android users. For now, the feature remains limited to the beta program.
