US FDA warns about Medline beds after 2 deaths and 16 serious injuries

On October 20, the company received reports of two deaths and 16 severe complications linked with the issues.The FDA said electrical components are prone to thermal instability under specific parameters potentially causing smoking, melting and burning or fires.

The company said affected beds could continue to be used under revised guidance, and provided users with revised safety instructions.In addition, the revised safety protocols mandate disconnecting the bed from the power source when not actively adjusting positioning and extension cables are not permitted under any circumstances.
