Tyga’s new album $TARFACE has received a brutal review from Pitchfork, with the music website giving it zero stars.
The score is getting extra attention because it is reportedly the first time in almost 20 years that Pitchfork has given an album such a low rating.
The review was written by Drew Millard, who clearly did not enjoy the project.
He called the album a “piece of sh*t” and said it felt “smug and complacent.”
He also gave a strange description of the listening experience, comparing it to being inside a David Cronenberg film.
Millard later shared his reaction on X, writing, “All I can say is: Tyga, you really earned it.”
The album has also attracted attention because Tyga openly said AI was used while making it.
He previously told VIBE that he and his team “definitely used” AI on the project.
Tyga compared AI to Auto Tune, but the subject remains controversial in music.
Some artists are worried about how the technology could affect musicians and their work.
SZA has also spoken strongly against AI after learning that her music was used to train AI systems.
She called the practice “disgusting.”
Tyga has not publicly responded to Pitchfork’s review.
For now, the zero star score has put $TARFACE in a very unusual place in Pitchfork history.
