ISLAMABAD: A joint intelligence-led operation has uncovered a suspected fake identity documents network for Afghan nationals, with authorities arresting four suspects, including two NADRA officials.

The operation, carried out jointly by Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), targeted a network allegedly involved in the illegal issuance of identity documents and manipulation of official records.

According to an FIA spokesperson, those arrested include NADRA Assistant Director Inam-ul-Haq, Deputy Assistant Director Fayyaz Ahmed, NADRA security guard Junaid Ahmed, and private agent Muhammad Umar Shah.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were allegedly involved in facilitating forged identity documents for Afghan nationals, tampering with official records and assisting in other unlawful activities.

The FIA said initial evidence also indicates the network’s suspected links to terrorist elements. Investigators have expanded the scope of the inquiry to identify other individuals connected to the operation and determine the full extent of the network’s activities.

During the operation, authorities seized key records and other evidence believed to be linked to the case. The recovered material is currently being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The FIA said further arrests and significant developments are expected as the investigation progresses. It added that all facilitators and principal operatives associated with the network will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the agency said it will continue working with other law enforcement institutions to take indiscriminate action against organised criminal networks involved in forged identity documents, terrorism facilitation and other illegal activities.
