Washington,: US President Donald Trump has described the recently brokered two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran as a “total and complete victory,” asserting that the accord represents a decisive milestone in easing escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a concise telephone briefing with AFP, President Trump emphasized the strategic significance of the agreement. “100 percent. No question about it,” he stated when asked if the deal could be considered a success, highlighting his administration’s diplomatic achievement.

While the ceasefire provides an immediate pause in hostilities, the President acknowledged that certain aspects remain under negotiation.

Addressing the status of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping corridor, Trump noted, “We have many points. We have a 15-point transaction, of which most of those things have been agreed on. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see if it gets there,” indicating that further diplomatic engagement will continue to ensure full compliance.

When asked about potential repercussions if Iran does not adhere to the agreement, Trump maintained a measured stance “Well, that you’re going to have to see,” signaling cautious optimism while retaining leverage over future developments.

The President also confirmed China’s role in facilitating the talks, stating, “I hear yes. Yes they were,” acknowledging Beijing’s contribution to bringing Tehran to the negotiating table.

Regarding nuclear issues, Trump reassured that concerns over uranium had been effectively addressed within the framework of the agreement. “That will be perfectly taken care of, or I wouldn’t have settled,” he emphasized, underlining the strategic safeguards embedded in the negotiations.

The two-week ceasefire marks a critical diplomatic intervention designed to prevent further escalation, stabilize regional dynamics, and provide a window for comprehensive negotiation. Trump’s remarks convey a blend of cautious optimism and strategic positioning, highlighting the United States’ intent to monitor adherence and safeguard its interests in the region.
