Pakistan’s trade deficit increased by 20.28 percent during first ten months of current fiscal year.

Pakistan’s trade deficit increased by 20.28 percent during the first ten months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the trade gap also rose sharply by 43.50 percent on a monthly basis. From July to April, the deficit grew mainly because exports declined while imports continued to increase.

During this period, the trade deficit reached nearly $32 billion, which is $5.49 billion higher than the same period last year. Exports dropped by 6.25 percent to $25.10 billion, while imports increased by 7.85 percent, going above $57 billion.

Although exports improved by 9.50 percent in April, a sharp rise of more than 28 percent in imports during the same month added more pressure on the trade deficit.
