Toyota Fortuner makes a grand comeback – Here’s what’s new

    • The Fortuner is set to launch an updated version in 2025.
    • The updated model features a modernized design language.
    • The redesigned dashboard includes a freestanding infotainment display.

Toyota plans to launch an updated version of the Toyota Fortuner in 2025 to strengthen its position in the rugged body-on-frame SUV market. While crossover SUVs dominate global sales, the Fortuner continues to attract loyal customers who value its durability, off-road capability, and practicality, especially in regions with tough terrain and unpredictable road conditions.

Toyota Fortuner’s Bold Exterior Hides a High-Tech Interior:

The upcoming Toyota Fortuner adopts a modernized design language that aligns with Toyota’s latest SUV styling cues seen in the Tundra and Land Cruiser. Toyota has equipped the front fascia with a bolder grille, sleeker LED headlamps, and a more sculpted hood, while redesigned taillights enhance the rear. Higher trims now feature wheel sizes of up to 20 inches, but Toyota maintains the overall dimensions to preserve third-row functionality.

Toyota gives the Fortuner’s cabin a substantial upgrade. The redesigned dashboard features a freestanding infotainment display, available in sizes ranging from 10 to 12.3 inches. The system supports wireless smartphone integration and receives over-the-air updates. Despite the digital enhancements, Toyota retains physical buttons for core functions to ensure ease of use in rugged, off-road conditions. The company also improves passenger comfort by adding premium seat materials, better ventilation, optional captain’s chairs, and a revamped third-row folding system. USB-C ports and wireless charging now come standard across all rows.

    Enhanced Powertrain and Off-Road Capabilities:

Toyota keeps the proven 2.8L turbodiesel engine for its core markets and introduces a new hybrid option that pairs a 2.5L petrol engine with electric assistance. The company replaces the older 6-speed automatic transmission with a more efficient 8-speed gearbox. Four-wheel-drive variants still offer low-range gearing and locking differentials to cater to serious off-road enthusiasts.

Toyota refines the Multi-Terrain Select system and adds a front-facing camera to enhance visibility and traction in challenging conditions. The Fortuner offers 225 mm of ground clearance and an improved water-wading capacity of approximately 750 mm. Depending on local regulations, its towing capacity reaches up to 3,500 kg.

It updates the suspension to minimize body roll and enhance ride comfort, while refining the steering system to deliver better on-road feedback. The company also adds extra cabin insulation to reduce noise and vibration, creating a more refined experience for long-distance driving.

Toyota significantly boosts safety by equipping the 2025 Fortuner with the latest Toyota Safety Sense package. The updated suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, enhanced automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a new front-centre airbag for improved side-impact protection. The company also fine-tunes the trailer sway control and hill descent assist systems for better stability and control.

With its bolder design, advanced technology, and new hybrid powertrain, Toyota positions the 2025 Fortuner to reignite excitement in the SUV market.
