A tornado struck the Oklahoma city of Enid as severe storms swept through several states, officials said.

The tornado moved through areas of Enid, a city of about 50,000 people in Garfield County, according to the National Weather Service.

Causing major damage to around 40 homes in one county. Roofs were torn off some houses while others were completely destroyed, especially in rural areas. Emergency teams went door to door to check on residents and rescue those who were trapped.

Videos showed the fast-moving tornado touching the ground and destroying homes. Nearby counties also reported flooded roads and damage to barns, while some roads and parts of U.S. Interstate 81 were closed, officials said.

Authorities confirmed that there were no deaths and only minor injuries after the storm. Police and rescue teams quickly reached the affected areas and began searching homes, followed by fire department crews and highway patrol teams.

Enid Mayor David Mason said some residents were trapped under debris and had to be rescued. He added that the worst damage occurred in the Gray Ridge area on the south side of the city, where several homes were destroyed.

He also praised the local community for coming together, saying businesses provided equipment and help, while residents supported each other during the crisis.

Footage from the area showed large piles of debris where homes once stood, with some buildings completely flattened.

A resident, Amy Kuntz, said she was on the phone with her daughter during the storm, guiding her to take shelter in a bathtub. Moments later, her daughter told her that the roof of their house had been blown away.

Weather officials warned that more storms could hit parts of Oklahoma through Friday night, with strong thunderstorms expected on Saturday, including in the Enid area.

Severe weather also affected other states. In Kearney, storms caused trees to fall, roads to be blocked, and homes to be damaged. However, no injuries were reported, and crews worked to clear roads and continue cleanup efforts.
