The wait for The Princess Diaries 3 is not over yet but fans finally have some good news.
Anne Hathaway says the movie is still happening, even though it may take a little more time before cameras start rolling.
Hathaway is coming back as Mia Thermopolis, the role that made her famous almost 25 years ago.
This time, Mia will return as the Queen of Genovia.
The movie will be directed by Adele Lim as the first script was dropped because the team wanted a better story.
Flora Greeson, however, is now writing a new script as author Meg Cabot, whose books inspired the movies, has already read it and called it “perfect.”
Right now, Hathaway is the only cast member confirmed for the film.
But Julie Andrews has said that she has not closed the door on returning as Queen Clarisse.
Chris Pine, Sandra Oh, Mandy Moore, Héctor Elizondo and Robert Schwartzman have also shared they would love to return if the story gives them a chance.
Disney, moreover, didn’t announce a release date yet and filming has not started.
Hathaway, who is expecting her third child, has said work on the movie could be delayed for now.
Still, she has made one thing clear and that is The Princess Diaries 3 has not been cancelled.
