Sweeps Razzies, declared 2025’s worst film

LOS ANGELES: The 2025 sci-fi adaptation War of the Worlds, inspired by H.G. Wells’s seminal 1898 novel, faced a critical maelstrom at the 46th annual Golden Raspberry Awards on Saturday, sweeping the awards for Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Remake, Worst Actor, and Worst Director.

The Razzies’ organizers remarked that the film “utterly annihilated the legacy of H.G. Wells’ classic novel,” underscoring the adaptation’s widely panned reception.

Another focal point of the evening was Snow White, Disney’s 2025 live-action reinterpretation of its 1937 animated masterpiece.

The film earned the titles of Worst Supporting Actor, humorously credited to all seven CGI dwarves, alongside Worst Screen Combo.

In a tongue-in-cheek statement, the Razzies suggested the film “spent a fortune, lost a fortune, and may even have been cursed by Walt himself for defying his alleged wish that it never be remade.”

The Razzie awards for individual performances included Rebel Wilson being named Worst Actress for her action-comedy role in Bride Hard, while Scarlet Rose Stallone claimed Worst Supporting Actress for her performance in the Western action thriller Gunslingers.

In a rare moment of redemption, the Razzie Redeemer Award, reserved for past nominees who later delivered critically acclaimed performances, was awarded to Kate Hudson. Hudson received widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Cartwright-Sardina in Song Sung Blue, where she stars alongside Hugh Jackman in a Neil Diamond-inspired husband-and-wife cover band.

Her performance has earned her nominations for Best Actress at prestigious platforms including the Golden Globe Awards, BAFTA Awards, and the Academy Awards, reflecting a complete turnaround from her previous Razzie nods.

The recognition marks a full-circle moment for Hudson, who previously received multiple Razzie nominations, including Worst Actress for the 2021 musical drama Music, directed by Australian singer Sia.

According to the Razzie organization, more than 1,100 voters across the U.S. and over two dozen countries participate annually to determine the winners of Hollywood’s most infamous—and satirical—awards.
