Sugar prices across Pakistan have once again gone out of control, and the government’s actions have not been effective.
In only one week, sugar has become more than Rs 10 per kilogram costlier. The maximum has now reached Rs 220 per kg in several areas of the country.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the highest sugar price last week was Rs 210 per kg, which has now increased to Rs 220. The average price has also moved up from Rs 188.81 to Rs 189.61 per kg.
Karachi continues to face the highest sugar price, where consumers are paying Rs 220 per kg. Retailers in Quetta are selling sugar for Rs 216 per kg, while shops in Hyderabad offer it for Rs 215, in Bannu for Rs 212, in Larkana for Rs 205, and in Sukkur for Rs 200 per kg.
Retailers in Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Sialkot are selling sugar for Rs 180 per kg, while shops in Lahore are offering it for Rs 179 per kg. In the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, sugar is being sold for Rs 190 per kg.
