Sophie Turner is excited for fans to see her as Lara Croft.
In a new interview with the Sunday Morning Herald on Sunday, August 9, the 30-year-old actress shared a rare update about the upcoming Tomb Raider TV series, months after production was halted after Turner experienced a “minor injury” on set.
“Right now, my focus is Tomb Raider,” Turner said. “It has been for quite a while and will be for a while to come,” she added, suggesting that it could still be some time before the movie comes out.
Turner noted that she feels well-equipped to take on the new role after playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones for 9 years.
“I feel good doing it. I was birthed by Game of Thrones — TV is my bread and butter, and I love developing a character over years. If I hadn’t had Game of Thrones, this would be overwhelming. But it’s a joy,” she shared.
In September 2025, Turner was announced as the new Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s new live-action adaptation of the iconic video game franchise. The character was previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
“They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances,” Turner said in a statement at the time, “but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
The mom-of-two — who shares two children with ex-husband Joe Jonas — also noted that she’s “thrilled beyond measure” to play Lara Croft, reassuring fans, “I am giving everything I’ve got.”
Production officially kicked off in January 2026. But in March, it was reported that Turner “experienced a minor injury,” causing production to be “briefly paused.”
The TV series does not yet have a release date.
