The son of a former Iranian intelligence minister, Hassan Younesi, has been charged by Iran with “strengthening the Zionist regime.”

He has also been temporarily banned from social media by the Iranian government, though he spoke of the ban in a post on 𝕏.

“I have been banned from activity on social media for three months,” Younesi said. “Turns out that in addition to spreading ‘falsehoods and propaganda against the sacred system,’ I am also accused of ‘strengthening the Zionist regime.’”

Younesi, a lawyer and activist, was previously detained by Iranian authorities during the 2022 Mahsa Amini protests, Iran International reported.

According to a report from Ynet News, Younesi’s father Ali served two former Iranian presidents.

Under President Mohammad Khatami, he served as Iran’s intelligence minister.

He was also a long-time advisor to President Hassan Rouhani.

The Ynet report further noted that Ali Younesi was known to have “warned of the growing influence of Israel’s Mossad inside Iran, claiming it had reached a point where every member of the ayatollahs’ regime should ‘fear for their lives.’”
