Authorities have urged residents in affected areas to use water carefully during the maintenance period.

Government of Sindh, in collaboration with the World Bank under the KWSSIP project, has taken another major step to strengthen the city’s water supply system.

According to a spokesperson, work to connect the new Central Line No. 5 with the existing water network at the Dhabeji Pumping Station will begin on Saturday, April 25 at 12 noon and will continue for 48 hours until Monday, April 27.

For this interconnection, nine pumps at the Dhabeji Pumping Station will be temporarily shut down for 48 hours. From April 27, water supply will be partially restored through seven of the nine pumps, while the remaining two pumps will stay offline for an additional five days to complete technical work.

During this process, water supply from the Fourth Phase, K-II, and K-III systems will remain suspended. However, other pumps will continue to supply water to the city as usual.

Areas including North Karachi, Surjani, Scheme 33, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar will face temporary suspension of water supply. Parts of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Landhi, Korangi, and Chanesar Town will also experience disruptions. Hydrants at Nipa, Safoora, and Sakhi Hasan will remain closed during the maintenance work.

The Official said the shutdown will result in a temporary shortfall of around 250 million gallons per day. Karachi normally receives about 650 million gallons daily; however, around 400 million gallons will continue to be supplied during the maintenance period to minimize inconvenience to residents.

Authorities have urged residents in affected areas to use water carefully during the maintenance period to avoid shortages.
