Sikh leaders show support for Bangladesh, confront Indian protesters

LONDON: Tensions flared outside the Bangladesh High Commission in London on Saturday as rival South Asian diaspora groups confronted each other over recent political developments in the region.

Members of the Sikh community gathered in solidarity with Bangladesh following the recent killing of Osman Hadi, describing the incident as a catalyst for justice and political accountability.

Demonstrators carried Khalistan flags and chanted slogans denouncing the Indian government, asserting that those targeting dissenters were exposing “India’s true face” to the world.

Meanwhile, Indian protesters had assembled at the same location to voice their opposition, highlighting the ongoing friction between the two communities.

Eyewitnesses reported that the situation quickly escalated into scuffles as both groups attempted to assert their positions near the diplomatic premises.

British police intervened swiftly, separating the groups and restoring order. No serious injuries were reported, and authorities maintained control throughout the incident.

This confrontation highlights the complex political dynamics within South Asian diaspora communities in the UK, where regional disputes and nationalist sentiments frequently manifest in public demonstrations.
