    Senate, National Assembly to debate key legislative bills today

    The National Assembly will meet at 5:00 pm with a 13-point agenda focusing on legislative business and key national concerns.

    Islamabad: The Senate and National Assembly are set to convene today as both houses prepare to deliberate on major legislative matters and pressing national issues.

    According to the agendas issued by their respective secretariats, the Senate session will begin at 4:00 pm with a 23-point agenda. Several significant bills are scheduled to be introduced, including amendments to laws governing the Federal Employees Benevolent Fund and Group Insurance, criminal legislation, anti-human trafficking measures, and cybercrime regulations.

    Proposed amendments to the Pakistan Penal Code and the Family Courts Act will also be tabled, along with a bill seeking to prohibit corporal punishment of children in Islamabad.

    In addition, three bills already passed by the National Assembly the Zakat and Ushr Amendment Bill, the Elections Amendment Bill, and the Al-Biruni International University Islamabad Bill will be presented to the Senate for approval.

    The National Assembly will meet at 5:00 pm with a 13-point agenda focusing on legislative business and key national concerns. Members are expected to raise attention notices on issues including Pakistani students stranded in Afghanistan and the emergence of new polio cases across the country.

    Reports on proposed amendments to the Centers of Excellence Act 1974 and the Islamabad Senior Citizens Act will also be presented. The session’s agenda further includes the PEMRA Amendment Bill 2025, amendments to laws governing the Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation, and proposed changes to service conditions for newspaper employees.

    Lawmakers will continue debate on the motion expressing gratitude to the President for his address to the joint sitting of Parliament.

    Separately, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has called a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee at 4:00 pm  an hour before the Assembly session to review and finalize the agenda for the 24th parliamentary session.
