Sandra Bullock teases exciting update about Practical Magic sequel.
The Gravity star is ready to pass the torch to Joey King and Maisie Williams for the upcoming movie in the franchise.
However, when asked about could the Owens coven return again? Bullock shared it depends on the box office.
In a recent conversation with Vanity Fair, the Speed star, 62, hinted that a third Practical Magic movie is possible if the upcoming sequel performs well.
“We’ll do a number three if this takes off, and we’ll pass the torch to the girls,” Bullock said.
Her onscreen daughters in the new film are played by Joey King and Maisie Williams. Practical Magic 2 will land in theaters on September 10 as the follow-up to the 1998 cult classic.
Bullock and Nicole Kidman’s pair return as the witchy Owens sisters, with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest back as the aunts who raised them.
King and Williams play the next generation — young women who’ve inherited the family’s magic but don’t know about it, or the supposed curse that makes love difficult for Owens women.
The sequel is directed by Susanne Bier and co-produced by Bullock and Kidman. Bullock said the new film was made to work for everyone.
“If you haven’t seen the first film, it doesn’t matter,” she told during interview. “But if you did see the first film, there are nostalgic reminders that we’re still in the same place with the same people, and we’re bringing on two more magical baby witches.”
Williams, 29, is already leaning into the legacy. The Game of Thrones alum recreated some of Bullock’s iconic ‘90s and early 2000s red carpet looks, earning the Oscar winner’s approval.
With King and Williams set to lead the next chapter, Practical Magic 2 could be the start of a new era for the Owens family — if fans show up.
