Queen Elizabeth II did not want Meghan Markle to adorn a veil on her wedding to Prince Harry, it is revealed.
Her Majesty did not want Meghan, who had been married once before Harry, unfollowing the Catholic Church directives for divorced women.
Royal author Tom Bower said: “The Queen also questioned why Meghan needed a veil for the wedding, given it was to be her second marriage.”
Queen’s confidante, Lady Elizabeth Anon added: “In the monarch’s view, it was not appropriate for a divorcee getting remarried in church to look quite so flamboyantly virginal.”
Meanwhile, Clare Waight-Keller, who designed Meghan’s dress during her days in Givenchy, said she wanted to make something “timeless” but also “convey modernity”.
The designer added: “In contrast, the delicate floral beauty of the veil was a vision Meghan and I shared, a special gesture embracing the commonwealth flora, ascending the circumference of the silk tulle.”
