MOSCOW: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg during a high-level diplomatic engagement, according to Russian media reports.

The Russian news agency reported that President Putin said he had received a message from Iran’s Supreme Leader and conveyed his best wishes for him. He also asked Araghchi to relay his greetings and goodwill to the Iranian leadership.

President Putin expressed hope that the Iranian people would overcome the current difficult period and that peace would be restored.

He further stated that Russia would do everything possible in the interest of Iran and other countries in the region. He added that Moscow intends to continue its strategic partnership with Tehran.

During the meeting, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi said that Iran-Russia relations are based on a strategic partnership that will continue to grow stronger over time.

He also thanked Russia and President Putin for their support to Iran.

Earlier, Araghchi arrived in St. Petersburg, with the visit being seen as particularly significant amid ongoing regional tensions and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing Iran-US hostilities.
