PTA introduces MVNO framework to boost telecom sector

As Pakistan moves towards nationwide digitalisation, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has developed a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) framework to transform the telecom sector.

The framework aims to accelerate growth, enhance competition, and attract investments. PTA has submitted it to the IT ministry for final approval.

    What is MVNO?

MVNO allows a telecom provider to offer mobile services without owning network infrastructure or spectrum. Instead, it partners with an existing mobile network operator (MNO) to provide services under its own brand.

    Benefits of MVNO in Pakistan

    • Increased competition leading to better services.
    • Encourages innovation in telecom offerings.
    • Customised services tailored to user preferences.

This new framework is expected to revolutionise Pakistan’s telecom industry, offering more choices and improved consumer connectivity.
