BEIJING/ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today concluded his four-day official visit to China and departed for Pakistan after a series of high-level engagements with the Chinese leadership, aimed at further strengthening the decades-old all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Islamabad and Beijing.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister and Secretary General of the China-CEEC Cooperation Secretariat, Hua Chunying, saw Prime Minister Shehbaz off at the airport, bringing to a close a diplomatically significant visit focused on expanding bilateral cooperation across political, economic, technological, and regional domains.

During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz held wide-ranging talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, with discussions centered on enhancing strategic coordination, deepening economic engagement, and accelerating cooperation under various bilateral frameworks.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, reaffirming their shared commitment to maintaining close coordination on matters of mutual interest and promoting stability, connectivity, and sustainable development in the region.

A major highlight of the visit was the prime minister’s participation in high-level commemorative events marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, a milestone reflecting the enduring nature of ties often described by both countries as an “iron-clad friendship” and an example of mutual trust.

During these engagements both sides reiterated their resolve to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in emerging sectors, while emphasizing the importance of continued people-to-people exchanges and institutional partnerships.

The visit also resulted in the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) across a broad spectrum of sectors aimed at enhancing practical cooperation between the two countries.

The accords covered areas including economy, trade, agriculture, food security, environment and climate change, science and technology, education, media cooperation, and counterterrorism, reflecting both countries’ intention to broaden the scope of engagement beyond traditional areas of partnership.

Officials said the agreements are expected to contribute toward enhanced institutional collaboration, greater economic coordination, and stronger bilateral connectivity, while opening new avenues for investment, innovation, and development cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz’s visit comes at a time when Pakistan and China continue to strengthen strategic engagement amid evolving regional dynamics, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding shared interests and further deepening their long-standing partnership.

The visit is also being viewed as an important step in reinforcing diplomatic momentum between Islamabad and Beijing, particularly as both sides seek closer cooperation in economic modernization, regional integration, and long-term development initiatives.
