ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a significant reduction in the price of diesel, providing relief to the public.

According to official sources, the prime minister approved a cut of Rs 32.12 per litre in diesel prices as part of the government’s decision to pass on the benefits of declining global oil rates to consumers.

Following the approval, the price of diesel has been reduced from Rs 385.54 per litre to Rs 353.43 per litre.

The prime minister said the government is committed to ensuring that the impact of reduced oil prices is transferred to the public as quickly as possible.

Earlier on April 10,  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced a significant reduction in fuel prices, cutting diesel by Rs135 per litre and petrol by Rs12 per litre, providing major relief to consumers.

In a televised address to the nation, the premier said the new price of diesel will be Rs385 per litre, while petrol will be available at Rs366 per litre. He added that the revised prices will take effect from midnight.

The prime minister termed the moment historic, noting that the situation in the Gulf has shifted from conflict to dialogue. He thanked the leadership of Iran and the United States for agreeing to negotiations, adding that both sides are set to arrive in Islamabad for talks.
