Pakistan’s top-order batter Saim Ayub has been out of action for more than a month now and he is expected to stay that way for at least another month.

In a statement to inform cricket fans about the batter, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that Ayub is progressing well in his recovery from a right ankle fracture and will continue his rehabilitation in England.

Following comprehensive MRI scans, X-rays, and medical assessments, Ayub has been ruled out for 10 weeks from the date of injury (January 3), the board said.

His availability, the PCB’s statement mentioned, for the New Zealand tour will be subject to clearing all fitness tests and medical requirements.

Pakistan will tour New Zealand for five T20Is and three ODIs from March 16 to April 5, which will be followed by the Pakistan Super League, which starts on April 8.

Due to his injury, the star batter was excluded from the squad for the Champions Trophy, which will take place in Pakistan as well as Dubai (where only India’s matches will be staged).

The board had said that he was ruled out of the squad since he’s a valuable asset to the team and the PCB is committed to prioritising his long-term health over making any rushed decisions.

Ayub, one of Pakistan’s mainstays in the batting order, suffered the injury while fielding during a Test match against South Africa in Cape Town last month. Following the injury, Ayub was sent to London for medical treatment.
