Israel carried out its strongest air attacks in Gaza, killing at least 30 people, including three children, according to Palestinian health officials. The strikes hit a police station, homes and tents.

The Israeli military said the attacks targeted commanders and locations linked to Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Israel said the strikes were carried out after a violation of a US-brokered ceasefire that was agreed in October last year following two years of fighting.

Hamas, which still controls nearly half of Gaza, accused Israel of breaking the ceasefire. However, it did not confirm whether any of its fighters or facilities were hit in the strikes.

The airstrikes took place a day before the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt was expected to reopen under a plan by US President Donald Trump aimed at ending the conflict, which has caused widespread destruction in Gaza.

The war began after Hamas-led fighters attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Israeli officials have warned that fighting could start again if Hamas refuses to give up its weapons.
