UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has urged an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, warning that the growing violence could push the country deeper into a humanitarian crisis and further destabilise an already fragile region.
Speaking during an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed serious concern over the rapidly worsening situation, saying continued military actions are putting countless civilian lives at risk.
He said that despite ceasefire arrangements already being in place, tensions on the ground continue to rise, with military operations and incursions adding to instability and fear among ordinary people.
The Pakistani envoy noted that millions have been affected by the conflict, forcing many families to flee their homes while others struggle to access food, healthcare, and other basic necessities.

Ambassador Ahmad strongly criticized attacks on medical teams, humanitarian workers, and civilian infrastructure, saying such incidents violate international humanitarian principles and further deepen the suffering of innocent people caught in the conflict.
He also voiced concern over damage to Lebanon’s historic and cultural sites, warning that continued destruction would not only erase valuable heritage but also weaken hopes for long-term peace.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, Ahmad said Islamabad firmly backs diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring calm and preventing further escalation.
He stressed the need for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, urging all sides to honour ceasefire commitments and avoid actions that could worsen the situation.
Calling for meaningful global action, the Pakistani diplomat urged the international community to move beyond statements and take practical steps to reduce tensions, protect civilians, and help pave the way for lasting peace in the Middle East.
