Islamabad: Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s interception of the Global Freedom Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In an official statement issued by the Foreign Office, it was revealed that the flotilla comprised over 40 vessels with around 500 international humanitarian activists on board, delivering essential aid to the besieged population of Gaza.

The spokesperson condemned the detention of humanitarian workers by Israeli forces, calling it a serious violation of international law and a reckless act that endangers the lives of unarmed civilians.

The statement further highlighted that the illegal blockade of Gaza continues to inflict immense suffering and deprivation on more than two million Palestinians. Blocking the delivery of humanitarian aid constitutes a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention, it added.

Pakistan reiterated its demand for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, called for the lifting of the illegal blockade, and urged for unhindered humanitarian access to the affected population. It also demanded the immediate release of all aid workers detained aboard the flotilla.

The Foreign Office emphasized the importance of upholding international law, human rights, and humanitarian principles. It called for Israel to be held accountable for its repeated violations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

The statement concluded with Pakistan’s continued backing for the establishment of an independent, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
