    • Special prayers will be offered for peace, prosperity of Pakistan.
    • Day will dawn with a 31-gun salute in federal capital
    • President Zardari will hoist national flag at special ceremony.

The nation is celebrating Independence Day with zeal and fervour and a renewed pledge to work with the spirit of the Pakistan Movement to make the country a true Islamic welfare state.

On the eve of the country’s 79th Independence Day, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and the Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, jointly inaugurated the Yadgar-e-Fatah monument in Islamabad.

The monument marks Pakistan’s victory over India during May 2025 conflict. On May 6-7, India — after levelling baseless and unfounded allegations against Pakistan for an attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir — launched an attack on Islamabad, which was responded to with full force, humiliating New Delhi.

The more than 80-hour war eventually stopped on May 10 after intervention from the United States, which saw multiple Indian jets and drones being downed, and bolstered Pakistan’s image as a “net security stabiliser”.

Pakistan, during the conflict, downed eight Indian fighter jets, including French-made Rafale, and dozens of drones.

Independence Day’s colourful celebrations reflect the country’s rich cultural heritage, national spirit and the remarkable journey of Pakistan since independence.

The day will dawn with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and a 21-gun salute at provincial headquarters.

Special prayers will be offered in mosques after Fajr prayer for peace, solidarity and prosperity of the country.

President Zardari will hoist the national flag at a special ceremony in the federal capital.

Similar flag hoisting ceremonies will also be held at provincial, divisional and district headquarters across the country.

Buildings, streets, markets and public places have been decorated with national flags, buntings and colourful lights, giving a festive look to the towns and cities.

A wide range of programs, including seminars, exhibitions, cultural events and other activities, have been organised to commemorate Independence Day with traditional zeal and fervour and to highlight the sacrifices of the nation’s forefathers.

ISPR has released a national song “Mera Pyara Watan Pakistan” on the occasion of Independence Day. The lyrics of the song reflect deep love for the motherland and national unity.

Independence Day is also being observed with zeal and zest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir as elsewhere across Pakistan.

The Day will dawn with a 21-gun salute at the state capital Muzaffarabad and special prayers will be offered after Fajar prayer for peace, solidarity and prosperity of the country and early liberation of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Flag-hoisting ceremonies will be held in all districts of AJK. The AJK prime minister will lay a floral wreath at the Shuhada monument.
