Pakistan launches first indigenous electro-optical satellite

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has successfully launched Pakistan’s first locally developed electro-optical satellite, EO-1.

The satellite was launched from China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre (JSLC), marking a historic achievement in Pakistan’s space exploration efforts.

Equipped with advanced electro-optical sensors, the EO-1 satellite can capture high-resolution images and data by measuring solar radiation reflected or emitted from the Earth’s surface. This technological advancement is expected to benefit several sectors, including agriculture, urban planning, environmental monitoring, and disaster management.

SUPARCO highlighted that EO-1’s capabilities would enable precision farming, monitor infrastructure development, provide real-time disaster updates, and support resource management and conservation efforts.

“This remarkable milestone represents a significant step toward self-reliance and technological excellence in space exploration,” stated SUPARCO.

SUPARCO Chairman Mohammad Yousaf Khan praised the engineers and scientists whose dedication made this launch possible. He also expressed gratitude to the government for its support, emphasizing that EO-1 symbolizes Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging space technology for national progress and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated the nation on this achievement, calling it a proud moment for Pakistan. “This accomplishment, led by SUPARCO, demonstrates our growing capabilities in space science and technology,” he said.

The EO-1 launch aligns with Pakistan’s National Space Policy and marks a new era in the country’s pursuit of innovation and self-reliance in space technology.
