ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s business landscape reached a new milestone in July as thousands of entrepreneurs stepped into the formal economy, pushing company registrations to a record high.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) registered 5,438 new companies during the month, marking a significant rise in corporate activity, with the information technology sector emerging as the leading driver of growth.

The latest figures reflect increasing business confidence, expanding digital entrepreneurship and continued interest from both local and foreign investors in Pakistan’s corporate market.

According to the SECP, the newly registered entities included 3,148 private limited companies, 2,117 single-member companies, 127 limited liability partnerships (LLPs), 28 non-profit organizations and 18 public companies.

The regulator said foreign participation also remained visible, with five foreign companies establishing offices in Pakistan during July. In addition, 112 newly registered companies included foreign directors from countries such as Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and China, highlighting continued international interest in the Pakistani market.

Punjab recorded the highest number of registrations with 2,756 companies, accounting for 51% of the total. Islamabad followed with 1,053 registrations, while Sindh registered 864 companies, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 450, Gilgit-Baltistan 180, and Balochistan 135.

The IT sector topped the list of newly registered businesses with 1,008 companies, reinforcing its position as one of the fastest-growing areas of Pakistan’s economy.

Other sectors that recorded notable growth included trading with 845 companies, services with 638, construction with 348, food and beverages with 256, tourism with 207, e-commerce with 181, education with 165, real estate development with 162, and corporate agriculture with 145 registrations.

The SECP said the record number of incorporations reflects sustained momentum in Pakistan’s formal business sector, supported by technology-driven ventures, entrepreneurship and growing investor participation.

The increase in company registrations signals a continued shift towards formalisation of businesses and expansion of economic activity across multiple sectors.
