Pakistan faces slow internet speeds due to submarine cable damage
ISLAMABAD: Internet users in Pakistan continue to face slow browsing speeds as a result of a fault in the international submarine cable.
Officials from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) reported that 830 gigabytes per second of affected traffic had already been rerouted via alternative channels, with ongoing efforts to shift the remaining traffic.
On Saturday, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja confirmed that the disruption, caused by a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable, affected 1,000 gigabytes per second of data traffic.
In a statement released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Thursday, it was noted that the fault occurred near Qatar, impacting one of the seven international undersea cables connecting Pakistan for global internet traffic. The fault is expected to affect the internet and broadband experience for users across the country.
