DHAKA: The second day of the first Test between Pakistan national cricket team and Bangladesh national cricket team ended with Pakistan reaching 179 for 1 in their second innings, still trailing by 234 runs.

Pakistan will need to overcome the deficit to erase Bangladesh’s first-innings lead and gain control of the match.

Opener Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for 45 runs, while the unbeaten partnership was anchored by Azan Awais, who scored 85*, and Abdullah Fazal, who remained not out on 37 at stumps.

Earlier, Bangladesh were bowled out for 413 runs in their first innings. The home side was powered by notable batting performances, including Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 101, Mominul Haque’s 91, and Mushfiqur Rahim’s 71.

Pakistan’s bowling attack delivered a strong performance, with Mohammad Abbas leading the charge by taking five wickets. Shaheen Afridi claimed three wickets, while Hassan Ali and Noman Ali picked up one wicket each.

The match remains finely poised as Pakistan look to reduce the deficit on the third day.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s batters produced a strong and composed batting display on the opening day of the first Test against Pakistan national cricket team, putting their side in a commanding position at stumps in Mirpur.

After winning the toss, Pakistan opted to bowl first, but Bangladesh recovered strongly despite an early setback of two wickets for just 31 runs.

Openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy (8) and Shadman Islam (13) were dismissed early, but a crucial third-wicket partnership of 170 runs between Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto turned the match in Bangladesh’s favour.

By the end of day one, Bangladesh reached 301 for 4, firmly in control of the match.

For Pakistan national cricket team, the wickets were shared evenly, with Hassan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Muhammad Abbas, and Noman Ali taking one wicket each.
