Amateur golfer Omar Khalid etched his name in Pakistan’s golf history by becoming the first amateur player to win the overall Sindh Open Golf Championship title, finishing ahead of a strong field featuring some of the country’s leading professionals.
Khalid produced a commanding performance across 54 holes, finishing the tournament at seven-under par to secure both the overall championship trophy and the amateur category title. His outstanding display saw him finish two strokes ahead of professional golfer Minhaj Maqsood.
While missing out on the overall crown, Minhaj Maqsood secured the professional category title after ending the championship at five-under par. Matloob Ahmed finished runner-up among professionals with a score of four-under par.
In the amateur standings, Sharan Ali Khan claimed second place, while Syed Rayan Ahmed finished third.
The Sindh Open victory adds to an already remarkable career for Omar Khalid, who has continued to break new ground for Pakistani golf at both national and international levels.

At the age of 16, Omar became the youngest golfer to win the Pakistan National Amateur Golf Championship. He later achieved another milestone by becoming Pakistan’s youngest-ever No. 1 amateur golfer.
His success has also extended beyond the country. Omar remains the only Pakistani golfer to win a professional tournament in the United States after capturing the Fendrich Open title in Evansville, Indiana. He secured the championship with a 14-under-par total over 36 holes, following exceptional rounds of 61 and 65.
Currently competing in NCAA Division I collegiate golf in the United States, Omar recently became the first Pakistani golfer to earn NCAA All-Conference honours after securing a podium finish at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Men’s Golf Championship in Illinois.
After completing two successful seasons at the University of Evansville, he will join Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, this August following his transfer.
Omar also holds the distinction of being the first and only Pakistani golfer to make the cut at a United States Golf Association (USGA) event, achieving the feat at the US Junior Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes, Oregon.
He also holds the record for the largest winning margin in Faldo Series Pakistan history, having won the title by an exceptional 40 strokes.
On the international stage, Omar has recorded a fourth-place finish at the Qatar Open Golf Championship in Doha and represented Pakistan at prestigious competitions, including the Asian Games, Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, and the World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy.
His historic Sindh Open victory further strengthens his position as one of Pakistan’s brightest emerging golf talents.
