Olivia Rodrigo’s new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, earned two nominations at the VMAs, but music fans believe that is the biggest injustice to the industry.
The 23-year-old pop superstar was nominated in the Best Pop category for drop dead and Best Alternative category for the cure, but fans believe she deserved more.
Taking to X, a critic wrote, “How did Olivia Rodrigo get so snubbed with the VMAs noms? Biggest pop album of the year and yet not a single mention in the main categories.”
Many agreed and voiced similar concerns, writing, “Don’t pay attention to VMAs. They’re voting based awards. Thats why the Grammys are the only ones I think prestigious.”
One asked, “didnt it come out after the eligibility period?” while another theorised, “it smells like a smear campaign cause there’s no way.”
Someone chimed in to add, “It’s because the VMA’s are irrelevant??” and “The album did good but all the singles flopped.”
While one explained, “Cause the window doesnt include most of girl so in love. She had 2 singles in the tracking year.”
