SEOUL: A recent informal yet striking interaction between Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Naver founder Lee Hae-jin has drawn renewed global attention to the expanding influence of Korean webtoons, highlighting how digital comics have evolved into a powerful cultural and communication medium on the world stage.

During his visit to South Korea from June 5 to 9, the Nvidia chief visited Naver’s 1784 headquarters in Seongnam on June 8, where discussions centered on potential collaboration in AI infrastructure and advanced computing systems.

As part of a cultural engagement hosted by Naver Webtoon, Huang participated in a unique interactive session, filling speech bubbles in a specially designed comic strip based on the hit webtoon “The Greatest Estate Developer.”

Standing alongside Naver founder Lee Hae-jin, he used the format to deliver a light-hearted yet symbolic message linking artificial intelligence with computing power.

“The more GPUs you have, the more you can work and the more happy you are,” Huang remarked during the visit, adding humorously, “GPU equals happy,” a statement that quickly circulated widely across social media platforms.

The moment gained significant traction online, reflecting how webtoons are increasingly being integrated beyond entertainment into corporate communication and global tech culture, particularly in high-profile industry engagements.

The featured title, The Greatest Estate Developer, is a fantasy-comedy webtoon adapted from a web novel by BK_Moon, with story by Lee Hyun-min and artwork by Kim Hyun-soo.

The series follows a civil engineering student who applies technical knowledge to manage and transform a fictional estate, blending practical engineering concepts with fantasy storytelling.

The webtoon concluded its five-year serialized run in March, achieving remarkable success with a 9.98 rating on Naver Webtoon and accumulating more than 1.2 billion global views, establishing itself as one of the platform’s standout titles.

In addition to its commercial performance, the series also received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the 2025 Korea Content Awards, underscoring its cultural and creative impact within South Korea’s rapidly growing content industry.

Industry analysts note that the series has played a significant role in reshaping the fantasy-comedy genre by combining technical themes such as civil engineering with accessible storytelling, helping it gain strong international readership and cross-media appeal.

With a game adaptation already released, the intellectual property continues to expand its global footprint, reflecting the broader rise of Korean digital content across entertainment sectors.

Naver’s decision to showcase its webtoon IP during an engagement with one of the world’s leading technology executives also highlights its strategic vision to position webtoons as a core cultural export in the global digital economy.

Overall, the interaction between Jensen Huang and Naver leadership has reinforced how Korean webtoons have transitioned from a domestic digital trend into a globally recognized creative industry, increasingly intersecting with technology, business, and international popular culture.
