Nick Jonas could have been singing alongside Anna and Elsa — but apparently, he needed a little more homework first.
During the latest episode of the Jonas Brothers’ podcast, Hey Jonas!, recorded at D23, Nick opened up about an audition for Frozen that went spectacularly wrong.
With Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Idina Menzel joining the episode, the singer decided it was the perfect time to confess.
“I auditioned for Frozen. I went in for Kristoff,” Nick revealed.
“I went in, and they said, ‘Okay, what are you going to be singing today?’ I said, ‘Oh, I don’t know.’ They said, ‘What do you mean you don’t know?’ They’re like, ‘Do you have your sheet music?’ And I said, ‘No, no one told me I had… Okay, lets’…’ And so I just said, ‘Can you play something from…’ I don’t know what I said, some musical theater song.”
The result? Not exactly Broadway-worthy.
“And I bombed the audition. It was terrible,” he admitted.
Bell didn’t waste the opportunity to tease him.
“That must have been why you didn’t get it,” she joked.
Gad, meanwhile, had a different take, claiming Nick might actually have been the better on-screen match for Bell.
“Look, I’ll say it here. You would have such better chemistry with Kristen than [Jonathan] Groff. It would be so much better,” Gad said.
Nick was quick to make clear that he has plenty of love for Groff, who ultimately voiced Kristoff.
Interestingly, Nick and Groff have both played J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying — Nick on Broadway in 2012 and Groff in a 2015 West End concert.
So, technically, Nick missed out on Kristoff — but at least he got the Broadway bragging rights.
