KARACHI: Iraq has introduced new visa regulations for Pakistani pilgrims, tightening entry rules and warning of strict action for violations, including bans, fines, and deportation.

According to the new guidelines, individuals travelling alone on a family visa will not be permitted to enter Iraq. In addition, single male pilgrims under the age of 50 have been barred from entry under the revised policy.

The Iraqi authorities further clarified that visa fees will not be refunded in case of rejection of an application or denial of entry into the country.

Officials also stated that a single visa cannot be used for both Ashura and Arbaeen pilgrimages, and separate arrangements will be required for each religious event.

Under the new rules, the visa will remain valid for a maximum of 30 days. Overstaying the permitted duration may result in fines, deportation, and a permanent ban on future entry into Iraq.

The statement added that upon arrival, Pakistani pilgrims’ passports will remain in the custody of Iraqi immigration authorities throughout their stay in the country.

Authorities have advised pilgrims and organizers to carefully review the updated requirements to avoid any inconvenience during travel.
