ISLAMABAD: Islamabad is making progress toward becoming an encroachment-free model capital as authorities continue a zero-tolerance operation against illegal encroachments under the leadership of Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi.
The campaign aims to reclaim government land and properties from illegal occupation, restore civic order and make Islamabad cleaner, greener, safer, more attractive, environmentally friendly and tourism-oriented.
Teams from the Capital Development Authority and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad are conducting coordinated anti-encroachment operations under the leadership of CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf and the supervision of MCI Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Director General Enforcement Dr Anam Fatima.
Authorities said the whole-of-government approach has strengthened coordination among relevant institutions, ensuring effective enforcement, monitoring and follow-up.
The zero-tolerance campaign targets illegal constructions, commercial extensions, roadside stalls and kiosks, encroachments on green belts and footpaths, occupation of government land, and unauthorized commercial use of residential properties.
Operations have been carried out in several areas, including Saidpur Village, Noorpur Shahan, Islamabad Expressway and Tarnol. Authorities said the operations have removed illegal structures and encroachments, reclaimed valuable government land and restored public passageways.
Anti-encroachment operations are also continuing in markets, residential sectors, service roads and green belts.
According to officials, thousands of kanals of government land, properties and commercial assets worth billions of rupees have been reclaimed during the campaign.
The removal of encroachments has also improved traffic flow, pedestrian access, green belts, parks and the overall urban environment.
The campaign has received public appreciation, with supporters describing the sustained and indiscriminate action as progress toward effective governance and equal enforcement of the law.
Officials and supporters have also used the term “Mohsin Speed” to describe the government’s focus on rapid and results-oriented governance.
Authorities said continued implementation of the campaign could further strengthen Islamabad’s position as a clean, green, safe, sustainable and attractive model capital.

The anti-encroachment drive is also being presented as a potential national model for good governance, protection of public land, equal enforcement of laws and balanced urban and rural development.
