    Monsoon rains kill 13 in Azad Kashmir, damage 217 houses

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered financial assistance for families affected by recent rains and flooding.

    MUZAFFARABAD: Monsoon rains have killed 13 people, including three children and five women, and injured seven others in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).

    An SDMA report said five men, five women and three children were among those killed during the recent monsoon rains.

    The rains also damaged 217 houses across the region. Of these, 60 were completely destroyed while 157 sustained partial damage, the report said.

    Seven people were injured, including four men, two women and one child.

    The SDMA also reported damage to 22 livestock and other properties during the rains.

    Several link roads and bridges have also been damaged during the monsoon spell, which has continued since last month, according to the authority.

    Authorities have been assessing the damage caused by the rains and monitoring affected areas as the monsoon season continues.

    Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered financial assistance for families affected by recent rains and flooding and directed authorities to accelerate relief and rehabilitation efforts.

    The prime minister was briefed at a meeting on the damage caused by the recent rains, the impact of the monsoon and progress on relief operations.

    Shehbaz directed federal ministers and secretaries to visit affected areas and oversee rehabilitation efforts. He also ordered authorities to ensure the swift delivery of food and relief supplies to affected families.

    The prime minister further directed authorities to immediately restore homes and critical infrastructure damaged by the rains and floods and to speed up relief operations.

    He ordered that financial assistance be provided to families affected by the disaster and called for coordinated efforts to ensure timely support to those in need.
