A search for answers in the Mir Raza Ali case entered a new phase on Saturday as authorities reopened the forensic process following the exhumation of the Karachi businessman’s body.
A medical board completed the post-mortem examination at a graveyard near Tariq Road and collected samples for chemical analysis, as the family continues to seek clarity over his death.
According to a member of the medical board, various samples were obtained from Ali’s body during the procedure and will be sent for detailed chemical analysis. After completing all required formalities, the body was reburied at the graveyard.
Ali’s father, Mir Hussain, said he was satisfied with the exhumation proceedings and expressed hope that the process would help uncover the facts surrounding his son’s death.
“I pray that what happened during the earlier post-mortem does not happen again,” he said.
He also claimed that a fake audio clip, allegedly featuring Ali, was circulated in an attempt to undermine the case.
The exhumation was carried out under tight security, with Ali’s family members and their lawyer Jibran Nasir present at the graveyard during the proceedings.
The process was delayed earlier after the family objected to changes in the medical board assigned to oversee the examination. Authorities later restored the original eight-member medical board, which had been formed following court directions and included forensic and pathology experts.
Nasir had raised concerns over the replacement of the original panel with a newly constituted five-member board, arguing that changes in the medical team created doubts for the family regarding the transparency of the process.
He also alleged political interference, saying repeated notifications regarding the board’s formation had increased concerns among the family.
Mir Raza Ali, an IBA graduate and businessman, returned home from his shop on the night of July 28 before leaving again, telling his family that he would return within 10 minutes. Police later recovered his body from Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
His father rejected speculation that Ali died by suicide and alleged that his son was murdered, demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The latest forensic examination is expected to provide further evidence as authorities await the results of the collected samples and continue investigating the case.
