Meghan Markle under fire for keeping Royal Prestige alive

Royal experts are accusing Meghan Markle of continuing to rely on her Duchess of Sussex title — even after leaving royal duties years ago.

Reports surfaced that during her recent Harper’s Bazaar interview, a staff member formally announced her as “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex,” which some experts found surprising. They believe the move shows how strongly Meghan values the status that comes with her title.

British broadcaster Helena Chard told the private media that Meghan seems to place “enormous importance” on being known as a duchess, especially since it benefits her public image and business activities in the United States.

Another expert, Hilary Fordwich, called the move “intentional” and “beyond pretentious,” saying Meghan tries to make a point by repeatedly using her royal title — even in private situations.

During the Harper’s Bazaar interview, the reporter noted that Meghan was introduced by her title while they were the only two people present in the home where the interview was conducted. A similar situation reportedly happened earlier in Los Angeles.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said that while using the title in official settings is acceptable, being announced in such private circumstances “just seems comical.”

This isn’t the first time Meghan has faced criticism for the issue. Earlier this year, she signed “HRH Meghan, Duchess of Sussex” on a gift basket that included her own products, prompting claims she was using her title for promotional gain.

Meghan received her duchess title when she married Prince Harry in 2018. The couple stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and later spoke openly about their struggles within the monarchy. Despite distancing themselves from royal life, Meghan continues to express how meaningful the Sussex name is to her and her children.
