The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have often faced public attention and criticism because of their strained relationship with the royal family over the past few years.
After deciding to return to the United Kingdom, the royal couple once again faced their long-standing security concerns.
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal duties in 2020. Since then, security has remained a major concern for the couple, with Harry fighting several legal battles over the issue in recent years.
Before their return to the United Kingdom, the Duchess of Sussex received a warning from longtime reporter Desalu-Vold, who expressed concern for Meghan’s well-being.
“Meghan, you haven’t even arrived and look at the chaos. For your mental health, emotional health and physical health, I would reconsider,” she said.
Royal commentator John McDermott said the couple could potentially play an important role within the royal family in the future.
“We are going to enter an interesting period of dueling courts. Harry is quite capable of championing the causes important to him without help from the Firm, as we have seen over the past few years,” he said.
McDermott said the bigger issue could be the possibility of a shortage of working royals during Prince William’s future reign.
“To me, the interesting piece is that Harry and Meghan could potentially help solve the future problem of there simply not being enough working royals, something that could become more apparent during William’s reign,” he said.
He added that if Prince Harry and Prince William are able to repair their relationship, the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death next year could provide an opportunity for reconciliation.
“Harry and Meghan could be major assets to the Crown. But in the short term, I do not anticipate a return to royal duties,” he suggested.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly arrived in the United Kingdom on a private jet on Aug. 26.
